The rural fence „Kalna Burini”
The house „Kalna Burini” is built in 1830 as a forest-guard’s fence. It is built in ethnographic log building’s technnique with cross corners of the house.
In 1865 the owner of the house Janis Aurins built here the first latvian association of rural readers with library and Sunday’s school. Later was established latvians association of rural singing parish „Ligo”. The ethnographer Mikus Skruzis was working at the house and organaizing national enterprises.
This is a splendid building, built in ethnographic log building’s technnique with cross corners of the house and at least in regions of Jelgava there aren’t such a buildings like this one. The building is hided in shade of 5 hundred years old grand-oak and 3 hundred years old spruce. Here is dominating peace and silence, only the house and different kind of utilitarian objects brings in the breath of history which reminds of latvains fate-gait.
In 1965 the building was reconstructed and the roof was changed as well, but still it has saved the its original planning. Everything in here is real.
The current owner of the house Imants Freidenfelds (from 1949) has created a garden with more than 200 speaches of wood-plants, found in Latvia and other parts of the world, these wood-plants are greening and blooming starting from early spring till late autumn.
In the house „Kalna Burini” you are welcomed not only in specialorganized ethnographical enterprises. You can also just sit by „dwarf”, as it is called in here, - it is modern fire-place which is not only giving out warmth but also light.
For children it will be very interesting expierence spending some time in dwarf’s Kiki „Cucumuiza”, that so far is only knowed from televizion screen, also there will be an opportunity to see the small rural fence animals as well.
In the house of „Kalna Burini”- in culture monument of the Country you are welcomed:
• in Saturdays starting form 5 p.m till 8 p.m.
• in Sundays starting form 1 p.m. till 5 p.m.
For visitors in winter and summer season we are offering:
• Walks along greenery of the house, the dendrological garden, along the ethnographic buildings. With preliminary announcment- excursion around nearest surroundings, including Jelgava and the region of Jelgava.
• A transport for organized trips.
• Rooms in „Kalna Burini”for family’s celebrations or social enterprises (for 34 persons as maximum)
• A boarding- house for 6 persons.
• Making preliminary order- tables laying and meals in taste of latvians.
• Meetings with artists and musical ensembles.
