Annas’ world has been made layer upon layer – some larger, some coarser, others finer, more fragile, but all having a common purpose: the creation of art and comfort. Every season sees a new one, skillfully crafted by the servant boy under the discerning eye of the young mistress of the manor ... The original manor house was built on this land in the middle of 18th century, overtime the manor grew in size to what you see here today. The Annas Manor was given to the Wilhelm von Fermor family, which was related to Russia at that time, as a gift by the Russian Empress Elizabeth. The painting that represents the landlady of Annas Manor between 1764 and 1778 is one of the best known paintings by Russian artist Ivan Vishnakov, which now hangs in the National Museum of St Petersburg. The history of Annas Manor is deeply connected with the entire Latvian nation's history. Annas inspired Garlieb Merkel, the first Baltic German who defended the interests of the Latvian people, to write his essay "Latvians, especially in Vidzeme, at the end of the philosophical century”, published in Leipzig in 1796.
