Description
The Settlement of the early inhabitants of Dobele – Semilallians – has been there already 1000 years B.C. The wooden Semigallian Castle was built within the ancient town and it was one of the administrative centres of ancient Semigallia.
From 1335 till 1347 the Livonia Order built a new brick castle instead of the old Wooden Semigallian Castle, later the church was built and the park arranged.Till 1562 the castle was the Quarters of the Head of the Garrison and at the same time the Home of the Vicegerent of the Apanage - the Comtur. In order to protect the ruins from further decay, the preservation works were started in 2002.
