The company was founded in Latvia in 1995, initially as a gravestone manufacturer, but since a business owner Aivars Kerliņš has an artistic soul and he saw that the stone can have different lives and that the stone can have a heart or it can even have wings. Thus, during 14 years of the existence of company, gaining the experience and collecting beautiful boulders, different kind of stones come in craftsmen’s hands, which turns into unique design elements.

Sometimes there are natural formed boulders who remind you already something recognizable But there are those that must be treated with love, affixing some metal component and then they turns into a plant or animal and starts to live their own life with their warm stone hearts. At the end of 2008 the artist came up with an idea to show and tell of these artworks in other countries and different world locations as well. Although there were foreign customers who found us in Latvia and our stone objects went to Europe, U.S. and Russia, our creative team decided to establish the company's representation in the Netherlands. Therefore Ivonna Kere established the enterprise “Open the Stone” in Netherlands in 2009, which serves as a bridge between artists - craftsmen and buyers throughout the world. So far, we have actively participated in exhibitions and fairs in Latvia, however from the summer 2009 we will take participation in the fairs and markets of Europe as well. We have a little cozy shop - creative workshop in Latvia "Ezerini", a log building which itself is an evidence of Latvian history and in which you have a great opportunity to see or/and buy unique craftworks of our artists and craftsmen.

Once you are in Latvia, you are very much welcome to look on the world from craftsmen’s vision. The sun sits on the stone and weaves the crown of light. A cheerful red bearded man touches the shoulder of stone with his hands – it sleeps wrapped in the moss as a huge and stale loaf of bread from the Earth’s early days – warm and with grained crust… Red bearded man starts to awaken a stone; he greets it by touching the forehead of the stone and with his eye-look says may I disturb you? I have an idea; I’ll turn you into a real bear… In the same way the rum fellow has a talk with every stone in his road and then he convinces them to go with him. Later, these stones will meet in the “Open the Stone”, where they turns into ants, frogs, turtles and other living creatures which are met in nature all around us.
