Description

Cēsis is 90 km from the Latvian capital Riga, easily reached by car or public transport - bus or train. There is an hourly bus service between Riga and Cēsis, and four trains a day, also stopping at Sigulda. All the sights of the town centre are close together. For visits to the Gauja National Park, we suggest taking your car or hiring one. Taxis are available at the Station Square (Stacijas laukums) or by phone: +371 8001000, +371 8004000. The call to taxi service is free of charge. There is a guarded 24-hour car park at Lenču iela 6, tel. +371 4127025. For car breakdown service, tel. +371 4124963. Currency can be exchanged at any bank branch in Cēsis. Banks are closed on weekends. The only bank open on Saturdays and Sundays is Lateko Bank in .Cēsis˙ supermarket at Lapsu iela 23. Bank cards (Visa, MasterCard and Eurocard) are accepted at most Cēsis hotels and restaurants. All shops, apart from supermarkets, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed on Sundays. Supermarkets are open seven days a week, generally until 10 p.m. Cēsis Tourist Information Centre provides information about sights to see, accommodation and events in the town and district.
